As I begin to join my head off out here, I'm getting some concerns about confidentiality. When I join groups, can others see that I've joined these groups? Are all of these groups going to send me things and clutter up my in box? It is making me a little nervous...
It's a question that many people have when they first start writing on blogs and publishing to wikis.
In fact, the question came up in the online class I am taking out of the University of Regina, Canada (#eci831). One of the students wondered about online safety in a blog post she did for the class. Twenty-five people, including me, commented on what she wrote.
If you read the original post and the 25 comments (as of 10.1.09, 10:00 P.M), you'll learn a lot that should help you answer your question.
Basically, it's a lot safer than most people think, especially, if you take appropriate precautions. You can find the original post and the comments here -> http://tr.im/Aof0
It is important to think about these things. It is wise to be cautious. I am confident when I take an online course that I am in a secure place. Maybe I should be confident and maybe I shouldn't. The problem is that you might become to confident and not as cautious. You always have to be careful when you are the Internet.
I'm also having some problems with the above. I remembered writing my comment about confidentiality, but I've been looking for it for days! How do you post a blog to the "front page" of this, rather than on this internal page?
The comment about confidentiality is at the top of this page here. Here's the link http://i3cs21s09.blogspot.com/2009/09/welcome-to-learning-commons-for-your.html

ReplyDeleteHi Dennis!
ReplyDeleteI can comment, but I am not sure how to list my name under contributors. Help?
